What’s the history behind Slopes?

It all began in 2013 when founder Curtis Herbert’s passion for snowboarding and interest in software development came together. Unable to find an app that included all the features he was looking for to track his snowboarding journey, he decided to create one himself.
Over the years, as Slopes' popularity has grown, so has the team behind the scenes. With all hands on deck, our priority remains the same - ensuring that everyone has the most enjoyable experience tracking their snowy adventures.

Why are leaderboards private?

At Slopes, our goal is to enhance real-life experiences — and in real life, you mostly ride with friends. That’s why we believe leaderboards should stay between friends. And while friendly competitions can be fun, we want all users to stay safe instead of putting themselves in harm's way just to see their name ranked first on a list. The mountain is unforgiving, and that’s not the spirit of winter sports.
We encourange our users to stay aware of their surroundings and always remain in complete control. Leaderboards, public or private, are never worth the risk 🚑.

What’s the difference between free and premium versions? Slopes free version is ad-free and truly free. You won't waste battery, data, or time on ads. And you get all the core features: find your friends, unlimited recordings, key stats & summaries, snow conditions, season & lifetime overviews.

Slopes Premium unlocks upgraded features and insights into your performance:
* Interactive Resort Maps in 2D and 3D (the free ver. offers standard terrain maps with no trails).
* Detailed Performance Analytics with stats for every run (vs key highlights of the day in the free version).
* Detailed Replays of your day in 3D & AR - analyze each second of your runs, find out where you hit top speeds and which was your top performance.
* Fitness Analytics - get insights into your endurance.
* Live Lift & Trail Status across 50+ resorts in North America.

Why Slopes? How is it different compared to other resort apps?

Slopes has all the tools you need — find my friends feature, advanced performance analytics, and 3D maps, all in one app. Compared to other resort apps, Slopes isn’t bound to a specific region, mountain, or resort. You can use it on-the-go, everywhere you go. Our team is constantly working on developing and launching innovative features based on our own on-the-ground experiences to give users the best ski-tracking experience.

Plus, it doesn't hurt that we are always up-to-date with the latest technology trends, new iOS and Android system releases, and that we're nimble on our feet to fix problems and push new releases out the door.

Will the iOS app and Android have feature parity soon?

Slopes had a seven-year head start on iOS before lauching the Android version in 2021. While there was a lot of catching up to do, we're almost there. Today, the Android version offers nearly all the features available on iOS, and our team is actively working to ensure Android keeps pace with new updates from recent releases.

We keep a running list of iOS-specific features that are waiting to be implemented in upcoming Android releases, so keep an eye out for them! We're also focused on launching newer features (especially friend-related ones) simultaneously on both platforms to prevent disparaities or inconveniences.
